20 years destroyed in 5 hours

Joe and Kathy B spent 20 years creating a dream home in the heart of a Maine forest. Designed by Kathy and built by Joe, their unique octagon-shaped home sports a giant fireplace in the center of the living room. The master shower was adorned with pebbles from a nearby stream. As rooms were added on over the years, the home grew to 3500 square feet. Guest rooms, a large eat-in kitchen and a library were all appointed with antiques lovingly collected over the years. A wrap-around deck offered a tranquil view of the stream.

And then disaster struck. In five hours, a fire devastated the home, destroying all Joe and Kathy's possessions and erasing years of dedicated efforts. Unable to walk away from 20 years of memories, the couple called Paul Davis Restoration of Central Maine, a subsidy of Keith Trembley Home Solutions.  Although it took 32 weeks of hard work, the PDR team rebuilt the home, including restoring many of the elements that made this home so special.

"If not for having God and a great family, life would have been a very different future," Joe said.

The fireplace was completely refurbished with a new oak mantle and stone. The kitchen and bedrooms received new wood paneling and white pine wooden beams were custom-made at a local sawmill.

The 2400 square feet of new Maine Traditions maple floors offsets the 1000 square feet of new carpet. Three rooms received new tile floors. A new custom shower, with three shower heads, has Chalet tile by Fine, with Mixed Pebbles for the floor, mimicking the original stream stones. Bliss Glass tile provide accents.

The kitchen's new Venetian Ice granite countertops complement the Stonecraft Realen veneer stone backsplash above the Kraftmaid Cherry Expresso cabinets. A Viking eight-burner commercial gas stove makes a strong statement in the newly restored space.

Other restorations include new Mathews Brothers windows, and new LJ Smith maple stairs and handrails.

Convert hidden areas into liveable spaces

Over the past few decades, American homes have changed when it comes to basements. Instead of dark, dank, cold spaces, today's homes include the basement as part of the "liveable" square footage. Seeking room for their growing family with two children, a family in Glenburn, Maine decided to transform 1000 square feet of unused basement space into a workout area, guest bedroom, a bathroom, new living area, and a play room for the children. Using the Total Basement Finishing system, KTHS installed mold and waterproof cement wall panels, vinyle plank floors, plastic moldings, and mold/sag proof ceilings, all with a 50-year warranty. Goodbye musty smells!

Vacation get-away restored after water catastrophe

Nestled in the mountains of Western Maine, is a unique log home, complete with stained-glass windows, cathedral ceilings, a two-story fireplace, an indoor pool and a walk-in sauna -- the perfect vacation get-away for the homeowners who live in Massachusetts. Unfortunately, last winter frozen pipes wrecked havoc on the home, resulting in water damage to the pool area, sauna, basement walls, kitchen countertops and appliances. Fortunately, the homeowners called KTHS, who replaced the walls with white pine finished wood and a wide plank pre-finished oak floor. The sauna was completely refurbished including the addition of new built-in seats. Using pine wood, the sauna is inviting, especially on a cold winter nights. The pool room was dried and refinished, replacing the damaged walls with white pine. The kitchen has new tile countertops and a deep slate sink with a slate backsplash. New GE appliances replaced the water damaged units.
