Basements & Garages: Overlooked, hidden space that can increase the value of your home
Basements
Often the lower spaces in a home are overlooked. Your basement can be turned into additional living and entertaining space at a fraction of the cost required to adding square footage on to your existing home. Imagine the home theater you've always wanted, or perhaps a game room, a home office, or simply a space transformed into a warm and inviting family room. On New England, according to a Cost vs. Value study, a basement remodel returns more than 75% within the first year!
Basements are a retreat for teens. Giving them their own space in which to entertain friends saves the rest of the house. With the addition of a bathroom, a converted basement space also becomes perfect guest quarters. Adding a snack center merely expands that use. Why not, the plumbing is already there. It just becomes a question of floor plan and traffic control. All this added living space without the worries of a new foundation, nor are any zoning or setback issues.
Keith Trembley Builders will manage through all the planning, zoning and setback requirements, budget considerations, and other decisions a basement remodel requires.
Here is a list of preliminary questions for you to consider and discuss with us on our first and subsequent visits
- What's our purpose for renovating our basement?
- What are the architectural considerations?
- How much additional space do we require to suit our family's needs?
- Will steps be a problem for any of our normal family members?
- Will our addition inconvenience our neighbors?
- How might we maximize the available natural light?
- What kind, if any windows will we want to include?
- How will the addition work into our current traffic pattern?
- Do we want tile, wood, or carpeting on our floor in our basement?
- Is there a particular style we'd like to achieve?
- How much are we willing to invest to have the added space?
Garages
Growing families require more storage space, more parking space. An investment in a garage results in a 69% return in value within the first year.
Keith Trembley Builder will help you with zoning and setback requirements when appropriate, and our experience will help you with the multitude of other decisions facing you. We will help you create the additional live enjoyment you want within a budget you are comfortable.
